Is pretending to be disabled offensive?

5/11/2026, 8:29:58 AM
I read that some people with BID "pretend" or "sim" being in a wheelchair or being blind. Is not this offensive to people who are actually disabled?

This is a common and understandable question. In the BID community, "simming" (simulating) is often used as a coping mechanism to temporarily relieve the intense dysphoria (often called "The Wave"). Most people with BID are deeply respectful of the disabled community and do not sim to mock or take resources away from those who need them. It is a private way to align their external reality with their internal identity, often done safely at home.
