would you be interested in a short film about BID?

Interesting question. My answer is generally yes. However, it needs to be done in an interesting and very good way. Some German TV channel has already made a report film on this topic when an accident survivor and a BID met, unfortunately I can't find this film online now. I didn't like this film, I didn't get the feeling that I saw myself. I think something like a narrative film* ( or fictional film or fiction film or drama film*) would be good.

• Remark: Unfortunately, my English skills are not the best, so I tried to define the name of the genre in English with the help of Wikipedia. Like: "The Horse Whisperer" "Rain Man" "The Intouchables"

I think i should make a pitch presentation. I have an idea and I have to pitch something later this year anyways.

It'd be putting myself out there a lot, especially if it gets approved, but I think I should do it. I don't have to say it's my story, I won't win any Oscars, I can just try to make something that's honest and beautiful.

I would love to hear your idea for the pitch. Our stories need to be told by us. I’d like to think that in the future, more bid stories with be presented in an artistic format for the world to see so we can be understood and respected. Art is a wonderful tool for communicating a unique experience such as ours. I’m sure whatever you concoct and create will be great.

My idea is to do something less literal and more poetic. I won't get approved for anything longer than 10 minutes at most, and I don't think I could fit a comprehensive view of BID in that time, especially since most people won't even know what it is. I think it would be much better for me to aim away from a traditional drama and go for expressionism and abstract emotiobal beats. If I worry less about getting "realistic" performances, I can focus more on making the presentation of the film really striking and something people will connect with even if they can't understand the experience.

A good documentary or a more traditional drama would be great but I don't feel confident in my ability to do something like that with the skills I have.

I was thinking I could rent out a theater/auditorium for a couple days of shooting and just do everything very German Expressionist style, with painted sets or cardboard flats or something like that. Inexpensive, easy to acquire and stylized. If I go fully expressionist it also gives me opportunity to play with the shadows in a way thats more impactful than realism - just imagine a performer on stage with the spotlight on them, but one arm or leg doesn't cast a shadow. If I make the visuals really special then it won't matter if people can sympathize with us or not, they'll still get it.

As far as story goes I haven't written a word yet so all of it could change, but I do have some ideas.

Our main character "A" is a young woman who wants her right hand amputated. Her two friends "B" and "C" are both concerned about her and try to talk her out of it, but they end up realizing that this desire comes from something very understandable. What I was thinking is that B could be trans, C could have an ED, that way the two characters both have something that makes it impossible for them to fully condemn A's wishes. The story would end with them accepting that even though the things they want for their bodies are totally different, it's caused by the same pain - dysphoria/dysmorphia.

The title will just be simple: Integrity. It's something everyone has, something everyone wants to keep. Most people can't relate at all to having a "body image identity disorder," but everybody wants to be treated with dignity and to exist as a complete being.
