I know. a bit of a hard/weird one. But it's a thought that has crossed my mind, a lot. I'll keep my choice to myself, but we can chat about it.

There have been polls on this in the past, and you see that only about 30% want a "cure," the rest want to achieve their need. This was asked in Fighting-It (search for red pill), in Reddit, as well as BFF. All got similar results. People have had this need most of their lives, and they are not going to give it up.

My theory is that as a community, we get told to go to therapy so many times, which doesnt work, making us skeptical of any cures

I would choose not to have bid.

BTW its far easier for me to say a sensory processing disorder. I personally think we make our situation harder with a separate disorder name. BID focuses on the conclusion I draw from really messed up sensory processing, thinking of it as a "misguided by suffering" conclusion rather than a need (my legs are useful, just feel entirely wrong)- it helps me not go towards thoughts of self harm (along with a lot of coping strategies)

If I could magically make either my need happen or be free of BID, I’d take being free of BID. While my need is strong and has been a part of me for most of my life, I can’t escape the fact that everything would be easier if the BID just didn’t exist in the first place.

I would choose getting my need achived. This has been going on for so long with no cure.

I’d prefer to not have BID. I like a very active lifestyle and being honest, there are many things I would not be able to do with a prosthetic (i.e. climbing trees).

However it does begets a question. If my BID disappears tomorrow, would I start regretting the amputations I’ve already done? Scary thought.

I would prefer to be paralyzed, a cure for bid would be cool. But I have lived with it for so long I'd rather have my needs met.

I would get rid of the BID. I would have debilitating chronic pain in the target limb without the urge to hurt myself, it just makes things harder

Trapped in a painful space between barely having a leg to stand on, and having one too many.
