I've heard that the most common limb people want gone is left foot/leg, and even among people who want both sides amputated I've noticed a lot of us will go for the left first. I dont remember where I heard this factoid, and I've never been confident enough in it to say it as true... I think it just spooked me when I first learned what BIID was because, well y'know.
But do you think there's anything about the left foot that makes it feel... Worse somehow? The only explanation I've heard is utility, like people using their right leg to drive, but personally I don't drive and I feel like that's not enough of a reason for it to (maybe) be the most common. Is it a coincidence? Selection bias? If left leg is your bad side, or worse side, do you feel like there's a reason for it? My best guess for myself is that I'm right handed and maybe the right side is more dominant for legs as well... Maybe if your parietal lobe is screwy, the left leg is just so much farther away from the one limb we feel the most comfortable with??? I have no idea.
Trapped in a painful space between barely having a leg to stand on, and having one too many.
